Hey everyone, I'm relocating from Detroit to Houston in early January. The drive will take me through New Orleans, where I'm planning on staying overnight. I'm looking for suggestions of a restaurant that represents the "Best of New Orleans." I'm thinking of cajun or seafood (unless there's something else the city is known for), and something that isn't too pricy (~$20). Thanks in advance!

R & O's in Bucktown on Old Hammond Highway is great.

It's known as one of the best seafood restaurants around but I always get the roast beef po-boy with extra gravy every time we go.

I'm curious to know if anyone recommends a place that piles on a bucket of crawfish onto your table? I remember driving through New Orleans as a kid and seeing billboards for those type of places.

Any other suggestions?

"Real" crawfish are grown locally, the Chinese/Danish ones taste differently. So, only available in season, which hits the high point in Apil.

Bon Ton! Check out the menu: Bon Ton Cafe I always order the house salad with house vinaigrette (a small salad with a creole mustard vinaigrette), crab au gratin and bread pudding.

I would say Jack Dempsey's on Poland or Mandina's on Canal St. would be my pics for NOLA neighborhood restaurants. If you are looking for the cream of the crop, Comander's Palace. You can also check out restaurants via nomenu.com.

Ooh! How about a reveillon dinner! Check out this site to learn more: http://frenchquarter.com/dining/reveillon.php

Ahhh, Jack Dempsey's! I couldn't think of the name. Shrimp w/cheese - sounds bad but tastes wonderful!

Local crawfish have been in season for two months now because of the large amount of rain we've been getting.

You can come out to my neighborhood and get nice size crawfish and large lake crabs at the Seafood Pot on River Road in Destrehan. I picked up 15lbs from them last night and they were great.

You can also get them from Louie at The Crab Shack at Frenier Landing. Call first because he is closed a few months of the year during winter.

Below is a link with a few more seafood places.

Kenner Seafood also has great seafood.

You can also head out to Bucktown and pickup a few pounds, along with a few cold beers and eat them on the Lake Front close by. Try either Captian Sid's, Schaefer or Deanie's Seafood, they,re all good.
