How were the Lions were successful under Schwartz? Their best season under him was in 2011. They finished second in the NFC North with a 10-6 regular season record and lost to the Saints in an NFC Wild Card Game. Finishing third or fourth with losing records of 2-14 in 2009, 6-10 in 2010, 4-12 in 2012, and 7-9 in 2013 would not be considered successful.

I do not think all the blame goes to Payton. He should accept some blame for keeping Ryan later than sooner. If the defense under Allen falters, then more blame could go to Payton.

We've never had a consistently decent defense under Payton.

Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, Justin Coleman, and Rashaan Melvin at cornerback somehow have the Patriots ranked #1. Its all coaching. Those guys arent special.

They got better from 2009 to 2011 and I believe 2011 represents the best of what Schwartz can do. I would take 10-6 right now, the Saints aren't going to make 10-6.

There were injuries in 2012, they got better again in 2013.

I don't think we should do either, but if you're talking about getting rid of Payton, you might as well get rid of Brees to, and start over. I don't like that idea yet. Give them at least another year with an up and coming d coordinator. I don't think D Allen is the answer either. Maybe he will surprise me.

If I recall, the Lions started the 2013 season well. They were 6-3 through week 10. They self imploded with a 1-6 record in the remaining seven games. That is not successful.

If it's Schwartz or Payton, I'm going with Payton, and I bet most people in New Orleans would agree with me. We have had a few bad years under Payton, but they don't add up to all of the bad years before him. Fix the defense. The offense is fine with Payton in charge. I think if Payton is available, there are about 15 teams that will line up for him.
