Can anyone give opinion about the safety of the area between Dauphine and North Claiborne, specifically the streets around Louis Armstrong Park, Ursalines, Dumaine, Villere. A friend will be relocating to NOLA in a few months and has been in contact with a realtor about properties in this area. Of course, the realtor wants a sale, so I thought I would ask some of you to weigh in.

You mean aka, Treme..

It's a bit of a sketchy area...however I wouldn't want to say don't buy there. There are some wonderful properties in that area, its no Central City but it isn't the safest area around (but like I said...good properties there...and I'd almost consider buying a PRC property around there)

That area is right by the projects. You decide.

It's a gamble--close to some really rough parts of town (Iberville Projects) and some very good ones (French Quarter). The architecture of that part of the Treme is basically an extension of the French Quarter, but it's in nowhere near as good of shape. Still, it has benefited from lots of rehabs in recent years. French Quarter has such a strong security presence that it has stayed safe, even though much of it is equally close to the projects. Treme just gets the standard NOPD attention. You could probably find a good deal in the area, and there are certainly much worse neighborhoods, but it is definitely not without its share of crime.
