Hello All

I am moving to New orleans for work for 6 months from Boston. I would be working in the downtown. Are there any areas specifically I can concentrate on while looking for accomodation.
My company is willing to pay for my accomodation. So my priority is to get a good neighbourhood or an apt complex, in a safe location.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.!

thank you

For only six months, and your company is picking up the tab? I'd get a cool place in the warehouse district.

The location depends on your lifestyle.
If you enjoy the night life and the hustle and bustle of the city I would say move to the Warehouse/CBD/French Quarter area. Keep in mind parking is a premium and your living quarters will be smaller.
If you are family oriented, walk to shops, eateries, and everyday actives I would pick certain places in the Garden District, Uptown, Broadmoor, Lakeview area.
Give us some more information and we will be able to hep you find the right area.

Thank you so much for your reply.
Most of the time I would be working. Would prefer to stay closer to the downtown and a lively area.
However my company has a budget. I was looking to short list good apt complexes and then put it in front of my manager.
I think they would be willing to pay around 800-1000/month.
I have been seeing a couple of apt's online but can't decide if the area is safe or not.
Apt that I am still looking into are The Esplanade, The Preserve, Pontchartrain Oaks, the georgian apt's ( they have 3 more properties close to new orleans), river garden.
Would be calling them tomorrow to see what they have to offer. As far as the safety goes, I have no clue
Would appreciate your help.

thank you

You will not be able to find something in the Warehouse, CBD, French Quarter area with that budget.
From the list of apartments you mentioned I would leave everyone of them along except for the Preserve. It's in a walkable area in Mid-City (which is in a security district with extra private patrol). It's super easy access to I-10. I just moved from the Mid-City area and loved every minute of it. It's getting to be more bicycle friendly. Hope this helps.

My co-worker just moved into River Garden this month. I think his rent is $900. I'll see what else I can find out about it.

930 Poydras is a super kool building with great amenties but it's very expensive to rent an apartment. They will consider 6 month rental on a case by case basis.
This is the price list from forrentdotcom
1BR/1BA - 1200 - 1420
2BR/1BA - 1650 - 1860
2BR/2BA - 1750 - 2100
2BR/2.5BA - 2500 townhouses
if you google 930 poydras they have a webiste and facebook fanpage

Do not go to River Garden. There is a lot of crime going on there like shootings, fights, auto accidents, its hell basically.

I could make a list of all the **** it happened in one year I lived there. Unfortunately it is a very long one.

I would say go live in the suburbs, like River Ridge. You can avoid traffic by getting Earhart Blvd and you will be able to relax when you get home and not deal with crazy neighbors (like in river garden).

PS: After going through the horrible experience of living there, I did a lot of research and basically chose a property that was managed by a company that got an excellent review at the Better Business Bureau.
