We will be driving to New Orleans the end of September from SC to attend my nephews wedding. I think we will stay in Montgomery AL each way to break up the drive.

The wedding will take place at Our Lady of Guadeloupe, 411 North Rampart St. and the reception at the Maison Dupuy, 1001 Toulouse St. The suggested places to stay are either Maison Dupuy or Hotel St. Marie, 827 Toulouse St. This will be our first visit to New Orleans.

Any other suggestions for convienient places to stay?

If we stay at either of the suggested hotels, we will have to pay to park at the hotel. What prospects would there be for finding safe street parking?

This will be a very expensive long weekend, so I am trying to find ways to save a few bucks if possible. Suggestions welcome.......

You should be able to find a spot in the Quarter, more so if you get in early in the afternoon. I might not be as close to those hotels as you like, but i'm always able to find a few spots towards Esplanade.

There are a few hotels further uptown along St. Charles that are cheaper, have free parking, and are right on the streetcar line which will take you back down to Canal St. from there it's only 1/2 mi walk to the church.

India House Hostel! It's honestly not that far from the Quarter and you'll save boatloads of money. Not sure if you're the type who can stay in a hostel though.

It was rated 2nd best hostel in the States a few years ago I think. I've stayed there myself twice and loved it.

I'm not rburnett, but I can Google with the best of 'em!

Clarion Hotel 2001 St. Charles
Avenue Garden Hotel 1509 St. Charles
Avenue Plaza Resort, 2111 St. Charles
Garden District Hotel 2203 St. Charles

Google "Hotels on St. Charles Ave, New Orleans" ... these and others will come up, together with a map and reviews.

It depends on your expectations, but I would place convenient access to the wedding venues at the top of my priorities. A well-traveled Parisian couple I know stay at the Villa Convento on Ursulines Ave. in the FQ and they find it quite nice for the price and location. But then they're French... http://www.villaconvento.com/

If you do park on the street, don't leave ANYTHING showing in the car. Even then, w/out of state plates, it might get broken into.
