I'm not trying to sound rude but the rooftop seems to be designed as a private club. Membership isn't even that crazy vs something like Soho House. Residents still have access to the archway pool correct? If so then the complaints here are kinda silly and the sense of entitlement is unreal.
The thing is that as a private club, its severely lacking. It's tight quarters, the grills are on top of each other, with the tables/eating space on top of that. The pool is small, it's more like a hot tub, but billed as an infinity pool (my a..). Don't get me wrong, as a complimentary feature, or for a nominal fee who wouldn't want to hang out on the rooftop. It's just not worth the fee they're asking. And how often would you actually use it You pretty much have to join at the $3,200 to bring guests, because 6 guest passes for the entire summer won't cut it.
There's lots of other great options in this great city. I'll pass on this one. More room for you. Enjoy.

My guess is when the Copper rooftop opens there will be many more chairs stuffed into that space. Pool goers are paying for exclusivity and access to that view. It may seem outrageous to you but for residents paying market rate prices the pool cost isn't a big deal.
Similar 'clubs' like soho get packed on nice summer days and Copper will be no exception. If you are going to tell spending thousands for the scene below is stupid then that's ok because you and I are not the target market.

Actually that’s not true. I currently know 18 people that are paying market rate prices and have teamed up to petition against the rooftop. Their argument is that the soho club is way better & less expensive and their security is at risk being that anybody off of the street can just join “the sentry” . Also you can only bring one guest at a time even with the unlimited guests pass. A lot of them are planning to move out by the summer if nothing is done about it.

Will be interesting see if that plays out. Personally I wonder if those 18 petitioners are not in fact motivated by the desire to see the club turned into private feature for residents and guests only.

I actually didn't call anyone stupid. You're the one who invoked pejoratives (silly, entitled).
But now I think I understand that you don't actually live in the building and are not familiar with the layout of the space, the tenant vibe or how management administers services. I'm sure there are rooftop club offerings that are worth $3,200 a season. This isn't one of them. Even when it was free, the rooftop and the pool weren't packed. And I've never seen anyone use the grills. Because they are awkward.
Anyway, even wealthy people (wealthy people in particular ?), expect value for their money and I just don't think it's there. But hey ... we'll see how it goes.

The articles have made this out to be a new feature... was this already open for residents but now being converted into a members only club?
If so they understandable why building residents might be upset and see a poor value in paying high fees.

OMG. I didn't even realize the "Sentry" will be open to the public for membership.

Residents were told that the rooftop amenities would be separate from the the amenities package/gym membership for a separate fee that was to be determined. The rooftop was completed and opened just before Memorial Day last year, and for the first year it was complimentary. So since last year residents have been waiting to find out what the cost would be for the rooftop amenities. And then we get this. So we always knew there would be an additional fee for the rooftop amenities, but not this nonsense.
And I see you have been comparing the American Copper rooftop to SoHo House. It's nothing like that, nowhere near that.
