I think he means because leases are binding contracts. It's one of the scariest parts of waiting and waiting and waiting.. If you have an understanding landlord it might be okay, and they might make you find a replacement tenant (not sure how common that really is though). but the landlord can sue you and make you responsible for all 24 months of rent payment (thus the definition of a lease). Then if you wind up in housing court say goodbye to any future lotteries. It's best to try and stay month to month whereever you live while you are in these lotteries, but not everyone can do that or wants to live that nebulously.

True. Our landlord is cool, that's why we did it. We just have to find someone decent to replace us when we leave.

Hello,

I have and interview for Brook Ave Apartments on Monday February 6th, and i would like to know if anybody has an approval so far. Also I have an interview for Crossroad II Plaza on February 9th. I hope i can get a 2 bedroom apartment for either one.

No word yet for Crossroads application and my appt was in November. I'm still waiting for HPD approval. I wonder if anyone has been approved by them as well. Hopefully there will be more responses.

Good luck! Make sure you have everything they asked for ready, and you'll do fine. I haven't heard back yet. I think they checked my credit a few days ago.
