Your friend is lying or ignorant. People are so hateful. I am sorry that someone as hostile towards someone lawfully seeking resident status is allowed to work as a translator there because she has bias against those applying. Unbelievable.

My friend has worked in that industry for over ten years, so I trust her professional analysis. But you do have to admit that many people do come here undocumented to upgrade their lives, not necessarily out of need.

Personally, I would go the legal route (H1B visa, student visas, etc) - it's where the real opportunities are, and this has nothing to do with hate. My friend came here from the Dominican Republic on an H1b as a physician and just bought her first apartment on the upper west side. Meanwhile, a good percentage of USA born people couldn't do that. So a question for you - isn't coming in through a legal port of entry much better than coming here unannounced and having to work as a food delivery person or at below minimum wage?

Stormwatch, can you keep your racist bs on the main page. This is racist anecdotal bs not based at all in fact. I can’t wait until I move and no longer go on this site for housing info and have to read this crap. Stick to relevant housing lottery information.

What makes this racist, and against what group of people?

That’s just 1 building. It sounds like they filled the units before they even got to your log #. Just keep applying. I have interviewed for 10 buildings and was approved for 9. I currently live in 1 and I am about to move into a different one. I wish you all the luck. Don’t give up.

Has your lease ended on your current place? I'm wondering about this because I live in a lottery apartment and I was interviewed for another lottery apartment recently. I know the process will take time but if the new lottery building follks happen to reach out to me for a lease signing, i'll probably still have time left on my current lease and was wondering how the process is to break the lease, if at all possible.

No my lease hasn’t ended. I originally signed a 2 year lease. When I left my last apartment (which was also a 2yr lease) I just gave them 30day notice and all went well. I have informed my current landlord that I will be leaving soon and they informed me that I just need to give them a 30day notice. Then I decided to sign my apartment over to a family (that might ruffle a few feathers in the “housing connect community”). You should be okay to just give a 30 day notice.

It pretty much means exactly what it states...
In regards to the units that you qualify for, there are none available for them to offer to you at the moment,
so they will put you on a waitlist and as units become available, they will reach out to the folks on the waitlist, usually in order of the log numbers, to see if they're still interested and possibly process them for a vacancy. It is impossible to estimate how long it will take before they contact anyone from the waitlist, months? years? you never know. So in the meantime you can continue applying to other lotteries that you qualify for and keep an eye out for emails from that management company regarding the waitlist. Good Luck!
