Just wanted to shoot an update still haven’t received an email regarding feels Roosevelt Island Riverwalk lottery if anyone has gotten a call good luck. I’m at a list of 3xx still waits if I even get a chance. Stay positive and faithful wish you all the best.
I absolutely adore Roosevelt Island- it’s the only neighborhood in the city that I would and did consider. I’ve been here for about 8 months now, living with 3 roommates (and dying for a studio lol). It’s basically like living in a suburb right smack dab in the middle of NYC! It’s extremely quiet and there isn’t much “to do” here (if you exclude all of the parks and outdoor space)- there aren’t really any shops, there aren’t any bars, no nightlife, etc. The only loud noises (ever) are sirens from the Queensboro bridge every once in a while, or the occasional news traffic helicopter hovering over the bridge for a few minutes. It’s definitely not the place for someone who wants to live in NYC for all of the attractions, busy social life, nightlife etc.- it’s geared towards families who want to live close to work but still raise kids in a quiet, safe place. Or people like me, who hate the city, but hate long commutes to the suburbs even more (did it for 5 years).
My office is “closed” for the most part until July 2021 at the earliest, but I still go in twice a week- it’s in the Financial District, a few blocks away from Wall Street. I hate the subway and will only take it if my life depends on it, so I take the ferry to commute- it’s great, affordable (same price as **** subway), and it’s only a 40 minute ride from RI to the Wall Street ferry piers. There’s the NYC Ferry app and their Twitter account that will notify you of delays, but I’ve never had any type of delay- always right on time.
I’m not sure about the tram! I’ve only taken it once to the UES when my folks came to visit for the touristy appeal. I really hate NYC, so I don’t venture out of the neighborhood unless I’m driving to Long Island. I follow a blog/Twitter account “The Roosevelt Islander” (@rooseveltisland), and he occasionally posts about the max capacity changing for the tram or scheduled maintenance and things like that, but I feel like there isn’t a real-time updates type of system.
Thank you very much for the review! Good luck with the lottery!
