I separated from my husband last novemeber. I removed him from the application and have been applying as one person with my income only in housing connect. Will this bring problems for qualification later on? My mother says that as I long as I tell them I am separated it should be fine. I have not started the divorce process yet nor are we separated on paper. So far we are legally married but I live with my mother and have been since last November.
For personal reasons I cannot start the divorce process until a year from now, maybe a little earlier.
Marketing handbook basically says that you have to demonstrate that you are no longer living together or financially interdependent. Make sure to keep records demonstrating that--your own bank account, any payments you're making to your mother for housing, bills at your mother's address.
Also be prepared to have to appeal this, as marketing agents tend to be terrible at these slightly more complicated scenarios.
It is complicated, but I don't blame the agents for looking skeptically at situations like these. They are trying to prevent one member of a couple from applying alone, in order to qualify, and then having a second wage-earner move in.
Can you apply for a legal separation now?
When going through this process, it's best to dot your i's and cross your t's as much as possible.
It def will cause a problem if you don’t have separation agreements from court or something saying that the divorce is in progress , if all your bills just contain your name and ya taxes just have your name you should be able to provide those documents which should help you ! Trust me when I say that they will ask for some type of legal documents saying there is a separation , so it’s best if you start the process before you get accepted for an apt and then get rejected because of separation
