Hi, I won the housing lottery about three years ago and was able to move from Astoria into Midtown, closer to work. There are many things about my apartment that I’m grateful for but there are also some critical items that have made it difficult living here. One of these is that my apartment does not receive any sunshine whatsoever and it has greatly affected my mood; especially during winter. Even on the sunniest of days, my apartment is dim. I’m not part of section 8 or the like. I simply went to housing lottery. Does anyone know if there is a process by which I can request transferring to another apartment in the same building? I’m certain there may be hurdles, but I’ll research those and see if I qualify. Any links to laws / guidelines/ information you could share with me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
That happens in Manhattan also. The buildings ade just so close together. I don’t know anything about transferring, but I suggest you upgrading your lighting in the meantime.
I used to have SAD or seasonal affective disorder and I was able to fix it with vitamins. While a view is nice, what you’re feeling is definitely a sunshine vitamin problem. You’re not getting enough vitamin D3, which comes from the sun.

Just a guess. Seems like building management would be a good place to start.
SAD light Therapy lamp is worth trying both at home and at work. If you are working remotely perhaps your employer would help with the costs.
I am not aware of any laws or regulations that apply to your case.
