Everyone - know this:
I live a block away. There is a huge housing project under construction right up against the entire facade of this building, with 2 more planned on either side. Any view you might have is likely to be gone in the next couple of years. The construction noise will never allow you to sleep. The neighborhood (especially your front door which is the pathway from the subway to Brooklyn Tech) will be overcrowded along with 6,000 students a day coming and going to school.
Unless the rent is cheap enough for an older apartment to make a difference in your life, this building may not be for you.

This is invaluable! Sounds awful. Thanks for sharing
Many of these newly constructed buildings have noise attenuating windows though so that construction noise may not be an issue. I live less than 50 feet from construction now and noise has never been a problem because the windows block most of it..

That's also a good point! I think its the pre-war buildings that have more of a noise issue.

One of my best friends lives in this building and I am currently in the process of confirming my eligibility for this building through their mini lottery. I’ve asked her a ton of questions about it and the construction on that side of the building does make a ton of noise, so much so that she had to transfer units to the other side. However, the other side of the building is quiet and has a great view of Manhattan (with only 196 Willoughby blocking it a bit.) As far as she knows there are no further plans to build more buildings on the Manhattan facing side since it’s LIU, and she hasn’t had any issue with noise from the students. I think as long as the unit is on the Manhattan side, I’d definitely take it. She loves living there otherwise, it’s a great location and having w/d in unit, a gym and being pet friendly are all huge perks.

My assumption was that the lot under construction beside 80 Dekalb would be another affordable housing building like every other new building down there. I didn’t think NYCHA was building any new large scale housing projects, especially someplace like downtown Brooklyn. Do you have any links about that.
Wondering if anyone who applied is moving forward with it
