A sad thing related to "migrants" happened to my aunt. She was on a waiting list for senior housing for years but her place was supplanted by "new" seniors from afar. She cried but there was nothing that could be done about it. Makes you wonder doesn't it?
Wow I’m so sorry to hear that!! I hope she finds something much better!

I agree. Just right-wing lying. I wish the red-staters would stay out of the lottery side of the New York forum. They’ve already taken over the other side, quoting from the New York Post every minute.
It really is true and I am not exaggerating. I don't mind helping newcomers but what about the old folks who have lived here forever and many are minorities.

Lol preach! Compared to other forums on this site that one tolerates way more racist/trolls for whatever reason...

Even in a person "from afar" got the apartment your relative was supposed to get, your relative would just get the next available one.
I am afraid not There are advocate groups making it difficult. Beside my aunt I care for many native elderly people of all backgrounds who feel that they are being pushed aside. Real or not, this is how people feel.
I have to say, the belief that the city is willing to help people find housing is pretty strong. I know a lot of people who have rental subsidies from the city and help finding an apartment is like pulling teeth, I had a friend who was homeless and lived in a hotel room with her two children for two years while she searched for an apartment. The city doesn’t care, if these systems work how they’re supposed to, they won’t be needed so people retain their jobs and retain the need
As a health care provider I work with many New Yorkers who experience tremendous difficulties here. It breaks my heart.
