I’m curious if there is anyone on here who has won a housing lottery and received a 1bd just with them being the head of household? I keep hearing stories about people who won but received a studio apt instead.

To answer the question, yes, one person households get 1 bed units in lotteries.

A likely reason an applicant only got a studio when they would have preferred a 1 bedroom is because other applicants with LOWER log#s (with or without preferences) got offered either a studio or 1 bedroom earlier. The 1 bedrooms were more popular with enough of those applicants that got to choose earlier. Luck of the draw.

(There are rare examples of lotteries that REQUIRE a two person household minimum for a 1 bedroom unit. Unless it says so, all qualified household sizes have an equal opportunity for studios and 1 bed units. Of course, log#, preferences, and Household Income are factors.)
