Obviously some of my friends I am happy to share if they didn't know about it. But other people? I guess I am worried about judgment - on one memorable occasion I got told I was "stealing housing from real New Yorkers" and that I should "leave"! (Even though my other half is a "real " New Yorker? OK then! lol!)

I guess I am just going to have to gauge the intention / judgment level on an individual basis! (I overthink things. It's a whole thing! lol)

Also - quite agree - would love to pay $1k rent! Sign me up!
"and that I should "leave"! " yeah that very rude...

I feel like I wouldn't tell other tenants there about it. People can get very jealous/upset that you're paying less than them to live in the same building (could also be me overthinking as well) but with those types of responses less is more.

So those I know who know about think its fake or have won it/gotten called to provide documents. lol
OMG, such attitudes stopped me from entering for the whole first year I was here! Depressing to think how many good chances I must have missed out on.

I'm so glad I found this forum and actually learned more about the whole process. As such, I also tell my friends who would actually be in with a chance (and need a chance) about it.

Yep, def wouldn't tell other tenants about it, unless I somehow found out they were fellow lottery buddies (who wouldn't spread the word). Can only imagine how much that would sting for the market rate people to find out.

See, I wish I could do this lol but I’m too brutally honest/upfront about my finances which isn’t always a good thing lol. I think I would also have imposter syndrome hah. I already feel that way at work with all the job hopping I had to do to get to this income!

On the same note, I heard they passed a law to state salary clearly in job ads (think it comes in in November). Amen to that!

A thought. You just moved in. You might give yourself a year of experience and thoughts before opening up to others about your circumstances. Enjoy your new home.

I totally agree with you - it is just that people keep asking me all these questions outright (which...not like good friends here. People I've just met will ask within the first ten minutes, not even people related to the new building!). It's throwing me off a bit and I don't really now how to answer, just going with the very vague "oh, we found a good place!"
