Radiators faded out by post WWII and certainly by 1960's. Steam heat was still being installed in multi-family and private homes newly built in 1970's, but by then convectors largely replaced rads.

Hot water (hydronic) heating largely overtook steam (as in convectors or rads) starting before WWII and certain thereafter for various reasons. Heat was suppled by either rads (less likely in new construction), baseboards or radiant in floors, walls or ceilings.

Regardless of heat emitting source steam or hot water is still the dominate way to heat large buildings. Most today go for hydronic/hot water again for various reasons.

PTAC/ Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner, split mini duct systems are fine for buildings say 6-10 stories or maybe a bit above. But for large office or multifamily it often is neither economical nor practical.
