From the documentation I've read, I think a letter from a licensed accountant or tax preparer needs only be on letterhead, whereas a self-statement needs to be notarized.

However, my marketing agent emailed me stating that my income projection letter (she didn't specify from whom) must be notarized.

The only reason I ask is that I have a letter prepared by my accountant, on letterhead but not notarized, and I'm not sure he would have time to locate and travel to a notary before my deadline.

Another question that comes to mind is whether a letter prepared by an accountant carries more weight than a self-statement, and is therefore preferable, or if it doesn't make any difference as long as the math supports the projection.

I don’t have an answer except I used a self statement notarized by notarize.com and that seemed to work!

The CPA letter does not need to be notarized if it is on letterhead. I don't believe it carries any more weight than the self projected statement. I have submitted both ways and haven't received any notes from them about it.
