I usually apply to higher AMI lotteries with my family but I was called back for a 40% AMI studio that I applied for by myself 2 years ago. I’m in a weird situation though because I’m back in school (part-time) but I’m not working because I won a government scholarship that provides me with a $1536/month stipend. I resigned from my last job on 9/1 but I’m not on unemployment because I left willingly. I don’t want to give up just yet, but I’m not sure if I’m an ideal applicant? I get a monthly gift from my parents of $800 a month on top of the stipend which puts me in the income range of $27,578-$39,560, it’s just very unconventional at the moment. Could I possibly get a letter from HRSA confirming the stipend amount that I will be receiving (I will start receiving payments in October) as well as a notarized letter from my parents? Regarding the gift income, the recurring amount shows up on my bank statements so I’m not super worried about that. Should I also include paystubs from my old job even though I quit? Thanks in advance!

If you are still interested in the studio, you should definitely go for it. Hand in the documents requested and see what they say. I believe your stipend and your gift income of $800 a month will count because they are recurring. Yes, if the stipend hasn't started yet, you will have to document it.

Yes. People prevail in lotteries when they have complex/multiple forms of income. Go for it.

Pursue this with optimism. Don’t concern yourself with being the ideal candidate. It’s not your job, it’s not even their job. Their job is evaluate your application to determine if it’s is suitable, not if it’s is ideal. You are allowed to appeal their decision because they make mistakes. With a complex income the opportunity to make a mistake increases.

For your benefit read these two documents. The first is long but has a detailed table of contents. The second is about 10 pages and has graphics, a quick read.
