FYI to everyone who thinks their lottery/documents process is definitely over once they sign a lease (as I did until today).

I had never heard of this before but I was contacted this afternoon by the original marketing agency for a building I've lived in for over a year saying my file was selected for an audit/compliance review. They requested that I provide a notarized letter verifying something on my original application that they never asked for a letter to verify at the time. I didn't know they were even allowed to do this and it seems most likely they dropped the ball at the time and now are trying to get me to cover their a**. Also not sure if this is an HPD/state/federal audit or an internal audit, they didn't say.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? No idea how common this is but figured I'd let everyone know that there is a non-0 chance you will be contacted for additional verifications down the road, even if your building doesn't require any sort of recertification.

Wow! I'm always very suspicious about requests for information. I think you're right that the marketing agency goofed somehow and maybe they got audited! I would definitely ask them for more details about the source of the request (HPD/state/federal) and confirm that before I would comply.

Or you can just ignore it and see what happens.

Also, how were you contacted? Email? Letter? I'm hoping it was in writing and not just a phone call.

Via email, and it was from people I previously worked with at the agency, from their agency emails. I'm not concerned it's a scam. But yes, I think they are being audited and whoever is reviewing their work thinks they should have requested this letter from me at the time, and they didn't, so now they are coming back to me requesting it. There is no ask for any updated or current information of any kind, which wouldn't be required. It's mostly just annoying as I obviously thought I'd never hear form them again lol
