I hope this message is finding you guys well. I need some input/clarification on the housing lottery process. I recently got selected for the housing lottery and was asked to submit documents. After submitting documents a marketing agent reached back out with a 5 day notice application I had to fill out to complete the process. I got back to them asap with the documents/a completed application. I qualified for a studio, 1 or 2 bd.
A day later they reached back out inviting me to view the apartment, but in the invitation they mentioned they mentioned they only have units available in an AMI percentage/income that I am not currently qualified for.
I asked for clarification about why would they move me along the process knowing they are no units in my AMI left? The marketing agent mentioned that I will be placed on a waitlist for the building.
I’m left a bit confused and wondering if I should even go on the tour to see the units. Has anyone else experienced this?
You have to qualify for the apartment you are going to be approved for. Have you seen the TIC the agent created? That would show what they calculated your income to be. If you are able to see the TIC, and you notice a mistake, you can try to explain any discrepancy. It is possible they made a mistake and calculated your income too high (or too low), that is the only reason I can think of.

Also I would go in and view the apartment maybe someone a head of you declined at last minute not to sign their lease and you would get that apartment. Since they told you that you would be placed on a waitlist
You never know. I would still go and see what they have. Perhaps there were not enough at a higher income and the building may have to readjust. Obviously they know that you are not in that ami becasue they spoke about a waitinglist. So check it out see if that would be a place of interest for you. Good luck either way.

Thank you for this context. Hopefully that ends up being the case. Fingers crossed!
