Don't torture yourself. If you have to actually be at LGA by 5:30( 6:30 departure) take a cab.It shouldn't cost that much to go through the tunnel and cut through LIC.

Taking a cab would be your best bet that early in the morning. However, if you must take the subway/bus to get to LGA, here's the quickest way...

Take the 6 train uptown at the 28th Street station. Get off at 59th Street, and transfer to a Queens-bound N or W train, and get off at Astoria Blvd. Transfer to the M60 bus to LGA. Budget yourself at least an hour and 15 minutes if you decide to take this route.

Yea I agree with what has been stated above. If you had an afternoon flight or an evening flight then that would be a different story. But if your flight is at 630am..you have to be AT the airport at least by 530am. (and I hope its domestic !). Trains run on a completely different schedule that early in the morning...the wait could be upwards to 25min just for one train to come, and because of where your located I dont think you could get there without having to transfer, which is additional time you would have to set aside to be at the airport on time. Yellow cabs have a set fair..probably be around 35$ you can get yourself some more sleep without having to rely on NYC transit ! And there wont be anyone on the highways at that time 25min trip max ! Compared to at least an hour by having to take transit

If you still want to take the train & bus regardless of the advice given so far, here it is: take the 4 or the 6 at Park and 28th to 125th St. At 125th St., transfer to the LaGuardia Airport bound M60 bus to your terminal.
