That does surprise me but not as much if you were to tell me you were deeper into Brooklyn territory. You are right on the borderline of Woodhaven Queens and Cypress Hills around there. Lane is only a few blocks away which is the cut off... That area actually use to be nearly 50/50 white/(hispanic/black/asian) not too long ago but it is one of the areas along with Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Canarcie and Flatlands that lost a large part of their white population in recent years. That's why it surprises me a little to see new white folks move into that area because usually the hipsters move into hoods that are transitioning into better areas/(and in their minds whiter areas) and not vice versa...
The reason why it doesn't surprise me completely is because since that area was fairly mixed, I wouldn't be surprised if they bought it from another white family... All in all though the amount of white people in Cypress Hills was probably at its lowest point somewhere around 05' but the white population there now in Cypress Hills is still very low in comparison with anytime over 10 years ago...
lol, trust me, I know all about Brooklyn and the white flight, etc, etc.

You dont get what I'm saying... I'm not talking about the rampid white flight that occured in all neighborhoods between the 50s and 70s... I'm talking about areas that remained as they were throughout and only had minimal changes until the late 90s and early 2000s in terms of white folks leaving these areas and that area of Cypress Hills/Woodhaven is part of it... Just like Ozone Park was always a mixed but majority working class white area until recently...
We lived on Pitkin between Jerome and Barbey in East NY but when we visited family that lived near Jamaica avenue even in the late 90s there was still a number of second generation italians there and other ethnic whites that had been there for years. The area now is nowhere near the white population of just 10 years ago... So the fact that you may see a white hipster or two doesn't change the fact that there's less white people there now than there was before... And once you pass that area the white population becomes almost non-existant... I do see some asians (mainly people from areas like Bangladesh/Pakistan/Nepal/guyana) moving in though...

Sadly the white flight continues to this. I'm sure when an expat new yorker of italian heritage visit williamsburg for the annual our lady of farms he or she will be shocked by the transformation.
Well, it will end once there's absolutely no white people in the whole city [which will happen].
Whites are moving to nyc in droves from across America but these whites are vastly different than local ethnic white new yorkers, also they seem to be affluent and also highly educated. While some are artistic and fashionable. I cant forget when a Guido had a fist fight with a wasp transplant over a girl on 23rd street and 6 av. It was like old riff Raf Ny vs new Ny.

The wasp transplant. The Italian guy had blood coming out of his mouth the transplant got away, this was last year at some night club in Chelsea the Italian guy also got cuffed and escorted into a squad car.
