I have a question. A couple of friends invited me to Club one in Astoria. Is it safe, or should I stay away? This is my first time to NYC as an adult so I have no idea. Also is it safe on the subway late at night around this areat?

Astoria is safe yes, but New York is a big city so anything can happen anywhere. I've never had a problem riding the trains late at night, but like I said things can happen whenever wherever, so just be safe. I don't think anything should stop you from having a good time though, have fun!

I know of people that have been mugged there.
Its a safe area but always be smart.
dont walk with your ipod on full blast with lots of money in your pocket.
I havent had much problems personally but I know people who have been robbed or assaulted.
If you dont bother anyone you will be fine. If there is an area that you shoudnt be in(projects, drug corner-which do exist) you will easily be able to tell(vacant buildings, tenement apartments).
Its definitely is one of the safer areas in Queens so I assume you will be okay.

I know this lady who got hit on the head with a baseball bat.
she got mugged twice in the same location.(a block from Steinway in little Egypt)
there was also this guy who got killed by a drug dealer.(40 year old white guy[drug addict] was shot by a 40 year old black guy[drug dealer])(not being racist to blacks[im black myself].
But for the most part its a diverse community with a significant population of every race.
Mainly greek, hispanic but has asians and blacks in smaller numbers.
One thing i noticed is that the blacks are confined to the projects and surrounding areas. But they are still noticeable.

It depends on what part. My area is pretty sleepy and overall I FEEL safe. But bad things can happen anywhere.
