Are there places at Brighton beach where one can change clothing before and after jumping into water? I suppose at least there must be bathrooms? What about showering?

Yes there are. There are bathroom facilities right on the boardwalk where you can take care of your business as well as change clothes and wash your feet. Its not the prettiest places but it works.

Thanks. The Broadwalk is very long, is there one bathroom every 100 yards (say), or only one? (If one, where is it?)

No. Not in many years. They've mostly been buried under the sand since they raised the sand level to the samer height as the boardwalk. According to the Parks Dept website the nearest ones left are at Asser Levy Park on W 5 st. and a the Luna Park playground for entering before the beaches.

New York City Department of Parks & Recreation (http://gis.nyc.gov/parks/lc/NYCParkMapIt.do - broken link)

And the following are active on the boardwalk:

Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk Facilities - Bathrooms : New York City Department of Parks & Recreation

But there is no guarantee on their conditions.
