Q: "I grew up in New Jersey - isn't that pretty much the same as NY?"
- Johnny, Teaneck, NJ. A: "No, you must be smoking crack." Q: "A whole group of us moved to NY after college, like 10 years ago, so we're officially New Yorkers, right?"
- Pam, Detroit, MI (but actually from a suburb 30 miles from Detroit). A: See above
Darlings, don't you know the famous quote from EB White?
There are three kinds of New Yorkers: the natives, the commuters, and the people who come from far and wide to make their mark. He concludes that the real New Yorker is from the third group.

And I think he's right.
Carry on....
EB White was wrong. I know this, because I happen to be a native-born New Yorker.
I took the questionaire, anybody ever been to one of these parties? I couldn't name 5 kids I went to high schoo with, only 4?
LOL And what if you went to a boarding school or one in the 'burbs? At any rate, I do think there is a major difference between a Teaneck or Hoboken resident or Lawn Gilander and a kid from Kansas.

I was born in Queens, lived in Queens until I was 3 and moved to Long Island. Came to Queens/Manhattan nearly every weekend to see family. A year ago, when I was 23, I moved back to Queens. Would you consider me a native NYer?
Though I have to admit--I can't stand when people out of state call themselves a NYer. Not unless they've lived in NY for like at least 10-15 years.

Thats tough? My father lived in Queens til he was like 10, moved to Long Island, then moved back to Brooklyn when he was like 18. he's been in Brooklyn ever since, he's like 55 now. So is he a NYer?
