New York Attitude. Is there really such a thing? Perhaps this photo, captured in Soho, one of New York City’s busiest shopping districts, can teach you the delicate subtleties of time-honored New York attitude. Do you see those two New Yorkers conversing in the foreground of this photo? You can’t miss them. They are standing smack-dab in the middle of a busy sidewalk, forcing passerbys to scrape their tender sun-burned bodies against stone walls and iron grating in an effort to pass. The already tight boundaries of this walkway are made thinner still by the akwardly placed newsstand that these two gentlemen are standing in front of. Yet, like the true Masters of Attitude they are, they proudly carry on in conversation, undismayed by the inconvenience they have created. Yes, be amazed! This, my friends, is classic New York Attitude!
By the way, if you look in the background you will see two trainees, young Jedi apprentices if you will, who are learning the art of New York Attitude. How touching it is to see the skills of the master passed on to the new generation . . . Viewers at home, please remember that these are trained professionals. Please do not try New York Attitude at home without proper supervision and training.
I tend to find tourists from other parts of the country engaged in this, not because they are rude or do it intentionally; but because they are not accustomed to a pedestrian lifestlye or they're caught up with planning they're next activity.
Manhattan as an example of NY attitude? I really don't like to write "lol" but lol.
Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island exhibit NY attitude. Hell, even Queens.
Manhattan may have exhibited a NY attitude back in the pre WW2 tenement days and the decrepit 70's and 80's but current Manhattan?
Talk about the two guys blathering while blocking the sidewalk? What about the hideous magazine kisosk, as immovable as Mount Olympus REALLY blocking the sidewalk?
They should all be dumped into the Hudson.
My guess that one of the talinking, blockheaded dimwits OWNS the kiosk.
It's not "attitude," it is governmental stupidity and police incompetence.
A 6 foot crowded sidewalk does not need a 3 foot wooden box selling junk that could just as easily be sold indoors.
rudest things that I encounter in my day-to-day routine--
1) people who don't wait for everyone to exit the subway car before getting on, or those who stand in front of the doors... YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET ON ANY FASTER
2) people IN the subway cars who don't move for people getting off... YOU ARE BEING INCONSIDERATE AND RUDE
3) the same as the above but for elevators
4) people in groups who walk 3 or 4 wide on the sidewalk and don't yield to one person trying to get by... SINCE WHEN WAS THE WHOLE SIDEWALK YOURS!?
5) cars that fail to use their turn signals... it makes crossing the street much, much easier
6) people who listen to their ipod with the terrible standard ipod earbuds with the volume on blast... it is an ipod not a boombox, and noone wants to listen to your music!
the list is unfinished but seriously... I get so frustrated every single day... PEOPLE ARE SO DUMB OMFG
This "attitude" topic reminds me of an old saying a buddy of mine in LA used to say:
Difference between NY and LA: In NY, when someone tells you to "'F' off", they really mean "hello." In LA, when someone tells you "hello", they really mean "'F' off".
