I'd say crime has been increasing since 2007. Probably not much but still
I have my doubts.
Also, do they add illegal immigrants to the homicide count?
I'm sure they do but I'm also sure its easier to wipe it off the books

They do, but like the other poster said, they're easier to "hide" or just ignore in the stats I guess. In 2007 I remember one got killed on 51st street and 5th avenue in my neighborhood, but it was never added to the murders that year. But the double homicide that had a lot of publicity last year definitely did, and they were both illegal immigrants.
Not sure if that was sarcasm by Andez or not... seems to be and definitely would make sense seeing as how two precints in Harlem rank in the top 5 worst in NYC. But to those that said that 2008 at 524 murders was only the second lowest crime rate that is not true. Im not sure where does it rank exactly but 2007 (again going by the fudged NYPD crime rates) had 490 something murders or something to that effect. I believe that was the first year they went below 2007 but if we do surpass 2008 which is seeming more and more likely nowadays then we will have surpassed the 07-09 rates and who knows how many more homicides have been unreported... I think that one person said it best when they said (I dont think that the crime rate will ever reach the crack epidemic era between the late 80s early 90s but at the same time dont think that the crime rate has dropped off as drastically as the NYPD will lead us to assume...
I used to believe the crime statistics. But with this Adrian Schoolcraft thing that is out the window. I do believe the city is safer than the 80's or 90's just based on actual day-to-day living here but the stats I have like zero faith in at this point.
