Does breaking the lease in NYC really damage your credit score? My apt is owned by a giant company, well known for their tenant/safety issues. I've been told that they generally don't come after people who leave because they're usually happy to just keep the security deposit. But even with that, will they send my info to creditors, etc?
Ask them. I've said this before. Give them legal possession if they agree to void the lease, as soon as you can. Then they can rerent faster. If you disappear it will take up to several months to figure out you're gone and sue you for non payment and get possession. This would cost them money.
breaking a lease wont effect your score. not paying them any money due for breaking it could effect your score if they report it or sue you and win
