Anyone who lives in New York City permanently is a New Yorker. If someone was born and raised in NYC but left the city permanently at age 18, then that person would be a former NYer.

It depends upon whom you ask, since some believe that transplants will never be New Yorkers, and others believe that those born in Manhattan are the only true New Yorkers. Personally, I believe that people who self-identify as New Yorkers and reside in New York qualify, regardless of borough of residence, or place of their birth. I am from Manhattan, but do not have a mindset that it's superior, since that and $5 will get me a cup of coffee at Starbuck's, just like everyone else.

A NYer is a person that was raised in New York City, or a person that was born and raised. However, If a person was just born in NY and then moved to another state and was raised in another state, then this person is not a NYer.

I agree with Papi on that one. Well said. I'm a NY'er for life!!!

Born and raised, and still go there at least 3-4 times a year. Can't take that out of me.

Born and bred and still residing is the only way you can own the title of "New Yorker".
The day you leave...no matter how often you return...your out of the club.
No way back in either---so don't try any funny stuff either.
We'll be watching.

LOL.. Sorry, that can't fly here.

Still own property in NYC (Bk Heights, paying taxes, come too often, born, raised, went to college there, have family, friends and too much vested in NYC) to let anyone tell me I'm not a NY'er.

Keep watching. I'll be right next to you asking you. "What are you watching?"
