Disagree with you. The specific strip of Audobon in the 160's/170's and into the 180's is definitely not safe. It's one of the few avenues in the heights that has stayed true to it's crack days.

I would agree with most other parts of the Heights. Alot of it rundown but actually not to bad.

Although there are a few other blocks in lower washington Heights (157th -163rd Amsterdam- Broadway) that are throwbacks as well.

Melrose ave becomes Webster in the early 160's. That's definitely the southern Bronx.

People always associate Claremont Village (the Webster, Morris, and Butler Houses) as south Bronx. These go up to 171st..so I'd say that Webster ave from where it changes from Melrose to about the end of the projects its southern Bronx. Then basically from the Cross Bronx expressway to about Fordham rd , I'd call it central. Finally from there to the 200's is Northern Bronx.

I think we all agree the term "South Bronx" generally applied from South of Fordham Rd down to the southern tip of the Bronx. However, I do not believe the Cross Bronx delineates the Central and Southern Bronx, as 171st is just a few blocks from there. I think the South Bronx, geographically, is everything south of 163rd st, or the northern edge of Melrose. Morrisania and up starts the central bronx until Fordham.

South Bronx is 132nd st - 163rd (about 30 blocks)
Central Bronx is 165th - Fordham Rd (about 30 blocks or so)
North Bronx: Everything north of Fordham (which can vary from 230s on the Eastern side, to 260s on the Western side)

But an argument can be made that the "South Bronx" term has shrunk from just south of Fordham, to now only up to the Cross Bronx Expressway, as SuperMario indicated. Quantifying the central bronx as just the area north of Cross Bronx and South of Fordham is just too small an area, IMO.

Bay Ridge is pretty bad too ... especially in the 90's from 3rd ave down to Shore Road ... supposedly just a few years ago a kid got his bicycle stolen around here ... the police still haven't solved that crime yet and I don't think they ever will ...

Motorman I didn't realize crime was spiraling like that in Bay Ridge. I guess we should add that to the list of neighborhoods going down the drain....thanks for the heads up.

I believe it. How typical it is that no media outlets picked this story up either. They've never cared about those kind of communities. Crying shame. Poor kid...

I know it ... it sounds so unbelievable , but true ... at night it's even worse ... there are people roaming the streets at night , littering! ... I heard about someone actually tossing an empty soda can in the street the other night ... Bay Ridge is just falling apart ... I felt it was my duty to put the heads up out there.

Thanks for caring man ... if there were more people like you on here we could push for the media to pick the story up.
