I noticed on the Notice of Examination for one of the upcoming NYC tests, it says you cannot bring cell phones or any electronic devices into the testing site. If you are traveling from a distance and taking mass transit, do they have a place you can leave your phone, device, etc? Or should you just leave everything home?

???

Just turn the device off and leave it in your pocket... or if you think they're really that strict, put it in your sock.

That would be an obvious thing to do but I'm not sure if they make you go through a metal detector or anything else. The last time I took a city test was years ago at Richmond Hill High School and all they said was to turn phones off, put them away. Now, the test is at the Lafayette Street office so I'm wondering about a metal detector or one of those xray machines for bags, etc. They should have lockers or something where you can leave your stuff but I'm guessing they don't.

They say if it's found you have any electronic device, you have to leave and you can't take the test. If you already took the test, they null out your score and you don't get your $$ back.

This. They will not hassle you for it. Just turn it off and keep it out of sight until you leave.

I've taken various NYC Exams and TRUST ME with the amount of people that show up for these exams the staff there have no time to check each and every one for cells. I've had my cell with me every time and they never took it away. All you gotta do is put it on vibrate or silent or turn it off before the exam.. even the instructor tells u before starting. Now if your phone rings in the middle of the test or they see you on it that's a whole different story! good luck!
