Lol, I was wondering how you landed a job over here from Chicago and now I see why. They always fish for suckers. I cannot believe you actually accepted and that you're really moving to NYC. What a gamble.
I really advise you to rescind your acceptance and stay put until you're offered something at least in the 50k/year range.
Don't listen to this foolish nonsense from someone who doesn't have a job, and hasn't had a single offer meeting his fantasy of worth and value.
Unlike the above poster, you sound like someone willing to work hard, hump your butt, strive and attain what you want, rather than the poster who is waiting for others to fulfil his fantasy by dumping a dream into his lap.
Super old thread guys, but for the record, living for free with relatives drastically changes the scenery. $25k sucks but if it gives you a foothold and can combine it with it a part-time crap job doing something else, that's all you need to get started. That's a starting salary for part time also...4-6 months later you're "experienced" and can qualify for better-paying full time jobs.

I have a job that pays double that and I'm not a "he" lmfao. WOW.

You could gain experience and get a full-time job somewhere else though. I guess living with relatives for free makes it easy to accept such a crap salary, however.
