I am going to college in NYC and want to live off campus in an apartment on my own. I recently re-visited New York and I chose to live close in the South Bronx. I got into an argument about moving with my parents who don't think it's right to do and are concerned about my safety and they don't think I will survive. The South Bronx looks like an affordable place. That's all I care about, I've lived in crime so I think I can handle myself a little well. What are y'all thoughts?
Let your parents see the neighborhood you'll be living in --- during the day, at night, and on weekend nights. You should check it out yourself also. Not sure where you're from or what "crime" you've lived in, but the South Bronx is probably a lot different.

One question is, what part of the south bronx did you move to? Some parts of the south bronx are safer then other while others are a bit concerning, one block can be so so and the other block out right dangerous for example willis avenue. The blocks to thr right are ok but the blocks left of the avenue is another story. I hope you choose bruckner boulevard or yankee stadium area.
