The great thing about street photography in New York City is the realness of it all. People "keep it real.". However, every once in a while a shot comes along that looks too perfect. I was photographing people on the street near Times Square in New York City, when this couple stopped precisely where the light was perfect, struck a pose long enough for me to focus carefully, and then left. They looked like the type of models you see in department store ads, and the pose reminds me of a cigarette or chewing gum commercial. Maybe they are models or actors, and were playing with me. By the way, is that lipstick he’s wearing?
Now here is the really strange part of the story. This second was shot only a few minutes later. Again the girls look like models, the makeup is perfect, and they were standing in perfect lighting. And, they are holding the same model camera as the first couple! Now, what do you make of that?
I don't think any of them were models, though. Probably just a coincidence. You can't really tell the model of the camera in the pic, either. All those point/shoot cameras look the same.
Times Square is a major tourist attraction and there are always a ton of beautiful people there. Same thing on 5th Avenue in the 57th Street area (Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, etc). You'll always see beautiful people there. Madison Avenue, too.
By the way, I agree that the people I shot in Times Square would probably not be high fashion models. However, there are also models that do the sort of work you see in department store ads and sunday circulars. They are typically more normal looking, not so emaciated. I did a bit of that myself many moons ago!
