Hi, I'm going to start my PhD at NYU next year, and I'm looking for housing... Someone suggested me Hoboken, which seems to be cheaper and well connected to downtown NY. I'd like to be easily connected with the campus (4th and Broadway) and Penn Station (I'll be travelling often with Amtrak), and not really worried to come back home alone at night...(I am a 24-years old girl)!
Many thanks in advance, this forum is very nice!

hoboken is a place to consider, but you might not find it to be much of a bargain over NYC prices, you might be able to find housing via the school "grape-vine". As you're coming in someone is leaving.

You want an apartment? I recommend you check with NYU... Those staff know where to find the cheapest place for student.
