Does anyone have recommendations on the best catholic schools in Queens.

I have heard that academically Our lady of Snow and Andrew Avellino are great academically. I would like to enroll my kids in a school that is both academically strong, with an art / music /sports influence. Any thoughts?

Among the highly-regarded ones are Our Lady Queen of Martyrs (Forest Hills), Our Lady of Mercy (also Forest Hills) and Sacred Heart (Bayside). Some people I know gave good fedback about the one in Rego Park, but I forgot the name. They all have good track record of their graduates entering competitive Catholic High Schools like Molloy and Mary Louise, and even special public high schools like Stuy and BSHS. There is very little differentiation among them, besides location since they all follow the standard archdiocese curriculum and have similar average class sizes (25 to 35). Sacred Heart has a strong math olympiad team, if that is something that would interest you. It's also close to Queensboro Community College so you have after school choices.

If you really want a Catholic school that's academically rigorous, the only one I can think of is St. Ignatius Loyola in the Upper East Side.

My child goes to Mercy in Forest Hills and we find it OK for the price.

Resurrection-Ascension is the very good school in Rego Park.

Our Lady of Hope---close by in Middle Village--is much bigger and also very good.

Thanks for the help. I live closer to flushing.... inevitably I need a school that is close to home but I am not happy with the local choices, I may need to travel.

From Flushing, you could look at Sacred Heart Bayside - one of the schools I mentioned. It has a good Math Olympiad team and is close to Queensboro Community College where there is a wide selection of after school activities.

If you're willing to travel further, check out St. Mary's in Manhasset which is close to the LIRR station.

Many students in Catholic schools come from outside the immediate neighborhood.

I wanted to provide and update..... I decided on St. Andrew Avellino School in Flushing New York. I went to their open house and saw their state scores, facilities, etc... and was impressed. The school is large and spacious and besides the academic focus, I got a sense of community from the school.

OK good choice if it means you don't have to commute that far.

Sacred Heart in Bayside would have been a better choice IMO!

Sacred Heart is a great school and some would argue that it is the best parochial school in Queens in terms of academics. But 4everbooks would need to factor the commute from Flushing. Note that Bayside does not have a subway stop so it's a long way to go by bus if you want to make it there by 8am.
