I hope that this sheds light on how much better this project could be. Building it with no connections is an improvement, but not really forward thinking.

I also have read there is a bridge on the approach to the tunnels that is only 2-tracked. For this to be run optimally, that bridge needs to be expanded(another $3bln).

There were some flaws in the design. For example it would not have been usable by Amtrak. But it would have taken some trains off the NEC main when ultimately completed. Projects like this are such long term it is like planning for grandchildren on your first date. Considering the depressed economy it might have been possible to rebid some contracts at lower cost.

Actually, we've already got one white elephant in the development phase--that being the LIRR extension project. We don't really need ARC into the bargain.

No , thats a needed project. Shows what you know about Rail projects in this region...... The ESA project is UC , and will open in a few years......,so is the second avenue subway and wasteful project?

The bolded is a pretty funny statement, because NJ is always screaming that the PA just does everything for New York. This especially happens every time a new gov comes in to each state. It's a constant tug-of-war between governors over who is getting their fair share from the PA. You know, the kind of tug-of-war that caused the creation of the PA in the first place.
