I'm planning to take the bus (Greyhound) from NYC and visit Montreal for only a day trip. I never been to Canada and have always dreamed about visiting Montreal and a french speaking region.

I do have U.S. passport and I'm 20 years old.

I'm planning to go there early morning and be back by late evening... I'm happy to go around Montreal for couple of hours

Has anyone done this? Does the bus make short stops on the way? Bad idea? Please give me advice.

That's more or less a bad idea considering it's an 8 hour bus trip. You would get there step off the bus and literally have to step back on if you wanted to get back in the same day. It's 16 hours of traveling. Montreal is a great city with lots to see. Not so much you can do in a day.

Can't you find a couple of days so you can enjoy the city without having to leave in 2 hours?

Also if you have any money at all, fly to Burlington on Jetblue and take the bus. 8 hours on a bus is torture.

I drove there for a 3 day weekend. Great place to visit.
It was a very long drive, pretty much impossible for a day trip.
Give it at least an overnight stay
