Hi guys

Does anyone know the neighborhood where Bowery St meets 4st street? Is it friendly and safe? A lot of activity?
And where would you say that this spot is situated, in Greenwich Village? Nolita? Our guide books says different things

Thanks to anyone who might know!

the area used to be terrible, now it has changed, there is a lot going on there, it is still a bit rough and lacking the polish of other areas, I would call it the east village

No it is very safe but don't get drunk at 3 in the morning and sit on the curb by yourself. Its considered the east village imo.

It's ok now, before they had a shelter across the street and crack dealing in that vicinity, it's calmed down a lot.

Its a yuppy paradise, they have a NYU dorm a block from there on the Bowery. CBGB's is now a designer clothing store. 2 blocks down Bowery are million dollar condos on Bond and Bowery. There is a new boutique hotel called the Bowery Hotel.
Just waiting for the moment they turn the homeless shelter into luxery condos. Who cares about homeless people, we need more luxury housing NOW!\
BTW I can't afford to spell luxery!

There is nothing remotely unsafe about that area, at 8 a.m. or 3 a.m. or any other time of the day. In fact, you will probably find far more people walking the street at 3 a.m. than 8 a.m. The Bowery Hotel, an upscale hotel and restaurant, opened last year at Bowery and 4rd. The Cooper Square Hotel, of the same ilk, will open next month a few blocks north.

The biggest threat to your safety is the potential to get run over by a skateboarding NYU student or barrelled into by a drunken hipster.

The East Village is generally considered bounded by Houston Street to the South and Bowery (or Lafayette/4th Avenue, depending upon who you ask) to the West. So, this is the East Village, and equally safe as any other part thereof. I have lived here for 20 years, during much of which I would have said so.

That said, it is a big city with a few million people, some of them crazy. Common sense must always prevail.

Projects in LES do not = Bad! I find that highly offensive because I lived there, as well as family and friends.
Don't worry about The Bowery OP and give a homeless guy a buck when you get a chance.
