i don't think mexicans will ever be that big in nyc. nearly all the mexicans who come here are illegal aliens and it's extremely hard for an illegal alien to make it in nyc. this is why we see many more mexicans in the south - cheaper to live and easier to find work. but southern states are starting to comedown hard on illegals.

Im frankly in awe at how quickly Mexicans have established a community and made an impact. It feels like it happened overnight. I think they are here to stay. Their families are big on average and the kids are growing up here. Another thing is Mexicans now make up a big chunk of the restaurant and hospitality labor pool and those sectors have a lot of sway and influence in this city. Dont expect the immigration laws here to change any time soon...

if you see the feds cracking down on illegal employment, the mexican population in nyc could easily drop by 50%, and there are only about 300,000 mexicans in the city - compared to about 600,000 dominicans, and 800,000 puerto ricans, and 2.1 million african americans. there were only 600,000 mexicans in the atlanta/metro area a while ago, and now it's down to under 400,00 and dropping because of the new laws. the federal immigration debate will determine a lot of this.

Your numbers are far fetched! 2.1 million AA? Maybe during the 1980s, 800k pr? Those numbers are much less nowadays. There is alot more then 600k dominicans.

well according to this, based on the 2010 census:

Demographics of New York City - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"African Americans make up 25.1% of New York City's population. According to the survey, there were 2,086,566 African Americans residing in New York City."

the aa population did drop in 2010 but it's still huge. but as far as mexicans are concerned, there are probably more 'legal' colombians than legal mexicans in ny. illegal mexicans represent a huge % of the mexican population in america. even on the west coast, in a city like compton, mexicans are 2/3rds of the population but there isn't a single elected mexican city official because so many are illegals.

Well, I mean, it kinda makes sense for mexicans to have the highest numbers of illegals considering they live right next to the USA and thus have the easiest access to the country, don't you think?

But yes, the Mexican population continues to grow in NYC. From The Bronx to Staten Island. I like to think of it as, wherever there is work that needs to be done, there will be a Mexican population in the city. I am a Mexican-American born to illegal immigrants/aliens in the USA. I went to a specialized high school (Brooklyn Tech) and there were others like I. I can only hope some of us make our voices heard in NYC.

Just one thing: The census says Black or African American, so there are people from the Carribean thrown in there too, rather than just "African Americans".

There are definately large pockets of Mexican communities in NYC. Brooklyn has quite a few in the Sunset park area; the Queens population is blended with the rest of the Latino population from LIC to Kew Gardens, and Staten Island definately has their numbers. Go to Port Richmond Ave and you would swear you were in Mexico City.
