A lot of businesses on Avenue A and B list themselves as being in the East Village

But is the East Village really "trendier" than the Lower East Side? I thought that aside from the projects, they were both completely gentrified.

Based on the rent prices and feel of the neighborhood. But I haven't been on every block, of course.

How close to being fully gentrified would you say it is?

50%. It has a heavy concentration of NYCHA, and regular tenement buildings. And Avenue C and D still have a lot of commercial businesses that caters to the non-gentry.

Take a walk down Avenue C on a hot summer night and you'll see what I'm saying. I had a friend that used to live on Avenue C so I know the area.
