Anyone know of any good classes for an adult to learn how to swim? For some reason I never learned. My friends keep telling me to "just jump in, it's so easy" or offer to teach me themselves, but I simply don't feel comfortable doing it that way.
A Manhattan location is the most convenient for me, but it doesn't really matter. Any help is appreciated, as usual.

You can take adult swimming lessons at the 92nd Steet Y.

Here's a link: Private Swim Instruction - 92nd Street Y - New York, NY

If you want more of a class setting, they do offer group instruction as well. Here's a link to the beginning aquatics: http://www.92y.org/shop/class_detail...ductid=HA3AW01

I took lessons at the West Side YMCA, but I'm pretty sure that they have adult swim classes at all of the Y's in the city. The teacher was quite nice at the West Side Y, but I prefer the facilities at McBurney.

I took private swim lessons at a local Y as an adult just this summer. I encourage you to sign up for 12 private lessons and go for it! It was so liberating and better than therapy - seriously One thing that helped me enormously was using swim goggles - made all the difference in the world.
