I am moving to Long Island City, right off the Vernon Jackson stop on the 7 train. I am going to be all over the place at all hours of the night. I am mostly concerned about this particular subway stop. Does it have a 24 hr attendant ? Is it safe? Unfortunately I had to rent a place without getting to fully know the area so if you guys could fill me in on where to stay away from, and how to avoid any problems that would be so great. If I get off the train at vernon jackson at 2-4am to walk home, is it likely that I will run into any problems? Thanks for your help. oh, and is the 7 train reliable at all hours?
You'll be OK, the 7 is pretty reliable and that stop is generally safe. The 7 is usually packed up to 3am. I don't think the booth attendant is there after midnight but I could be wrong. Its a pretty busy station due to all the new condos and high rises over there. Of course watch your back because you're in a big city but nothing will happen to you 1 times out of 100.
The 7 train is fairly safe, i remember about 10 - 15 yrs a token booth clerk was murdered when he came out to collect the subway tokens but they dont have tokens anymore, there are alot of weekends where the subway station is shut down for construction and/or mainteneance...this has been going on for as long as i can remember.
Perhaps you should have looked into the neighborhood before you moved there instead of Bloomberg telling you how safe this city is..when in actuality it is not.
