Cant go wrong with the old standards:

McSorley's Old Ale House

Was a real Irish bar in the old days - a lot of the newer Irish bars are some oak paneling and some Irish junk hung on the wall. Guess it depends on how Irish you want it to be... Hurleys on 6th now gone was a great place it was my office for a while - now its a womens display store not Irish

or look around

The 11th Street Bar (East Village, between avenues A and B) is a good neighborhood pub, sometimes has performers doing Irish folk.

Not Irish, but a place called Drop Off Service has a good tap selection and a somewhat pub-ish feel.

McSorley's is ok, but you better get there early. it's a big yuppie hang out after 10 on fri and sat nights. if you want real, down and dirty, irish bars...go to yonkers on mclean ave. ned devine's saloon is hardcore. rory dolans is the nicest of the bunch. in the city...finnegan's wake (72nd and either 1st or 2nd) is ok and o'flannagans (1st ave btw 66/67) is nice.

Are you talking about Irish bars in New York City or New York State? If you are talking about Irish bars in New York State, htere are plenty of them in my home of Elmira, NY. Elmira has a lot of Irish heritage. Horigan's, Patrick's, and the Hi Bar are all Irish bars within the city limits among many others that I can't think of right off hand.

Don't know too much about Irish bars, but I know McSorley's is cool. Great beer and great atmosphere. Surprisingly good burgers too! They make one of the best burgers I've had in NYC.

Yeah I don't know why or how this even came about, but Irish bars in the NYC area seem to excel at making burgers (and at some places steak). Some of the places in my Irish neighborhood advertise their "Hibernian Burgers." I'm Irish-American and I don't generally associate Ireland with Hamburgers though, so I'm just confused as you are on this one.

Looking for a small place with sawdust still on the floor? Plus an outstanding burger & shepherd's pie? Try Molly's on Thrid Ave near E.21 St.

Also a good Irish bar is Donovan's in Woodside on Roosevelt Ave at 61 St. You will be sure to hear a brogue in there. Top of the line burger & steak there too!

You best chance of hearing some Irish music with your pint will be at Paddy Reilly's on Second Ave and 29 St.

McSorley's has become touristy....

Almost forgot to mention 2 places on West 57 St.... check out Kennedy's and Reynold's is just up the road a piece.
