Monday morning, November 29th at approximately 7am, Jet Blue Terminal Security Check Point:
I was asked to remove my wedding ring and place it into a bin for xray scan. A mishap occurred, either during the conveyor movement or while a TSA employee was rummaging through bins. My wedding ring disappeared from the bin. I noticed that when the bins came out, some of them were cluttered and a few items were ejected from the bin. My ring must have been amongst them.
I'm posting here because City-Data sees A LOT of activity. If you have found a wedding ring in this area on Monday, November 29th or any time following, PLEASE reply to me privately. It is a men's gold wedding band with diamonds.
The flight was from NY to Austin, TX.
A report was filed with port authority police and I have continuously checked with Lost & Found.
I'm an airline pilot. I go through with my leather belt /w small buckel, wedding band (stainless steel), eye glasses, Zebra pen, fossil steel watch, and a small pocket sized metal spiral bound note pad), and the only detector that is set off is in CAK.
I only trust TSA ageents as far as I can throw them. Since I'm only 160 lbs, and most of them weight 300+, that trust is none. Keep an eye on your stuff as long as you can. I don't walk through the magnetometer until my last tray enters (which has my laptop and phone) the bin. If they pull you aside for additional fondling, demand that your stuff is moved off the belt where you can see it.
Do not go through the porno scanners, and request a private fondling if they require one, with all your belonging present. I'd recommend having a fellow passenger obverse and/or video tape the fondling (which is legal) in case you need a witness in your lawsuit.
Forget it. Those TSA agents are notorious for "losing" people's valuables. I've heard stories of things going missing such as: smart phones, laptops, kindle's, jewelry, money, etc etc etc.... Keep in mind, these aren't professionals by any means. The majority of them were minimum wage rent-a-cops until they hit the jackpot on 9/11 and became "TSA agents"..... Give me a break. A bunch of uneducated, uncouth cretins taking care of "security".

All the TSA agents I have encountered have been nice and respectful and professional. I have never had a bad experience and ive flown quite a bit. If your going to take out anger on someone dont do it on the agents who are just trying to get through the day like anyone else. Do it on the people who actually make the laws.

I have absolutely NO problem with airline security since, in this day and age, it's obviously needed. I DO however, have a problem with people stealing from passengers as they're going through the checkpoint.
Get through your workday, just stop stealing people's jewelry and other valuables.

True statement. My friend took pepper spray on a plane and no one even batted an eye. Granted she had forgotten it was in her purse and we didn't see it until we got off the plane. But aren't things like that supposed to come up on the x-ray? Probably because the TSA people where too busy making weekend plans.
That ring is long gone.... probably already sold to a pawn shop for a fraction of what it's worth and is already melted down and the diamonds in a drawer waiting to be mounted in a new piece of jewelry.
Sorry to the OP but I'm thinking that's the reality of it. There was NO reason for the TSA to tell you to take the ring off at all. I'm sure they saw it, knew it was worth something and told you to take it off so it wouldn't "set off" the metal detector and while you were going through, they grabbed it and tosssled up all the other little boxes to make it seem like the machine jumbled the boxes up.
there HAS TO be someone liable in that situation. Dont they have cameras or something???? i wouldnt get on a plane until that ring showed up or someone acnowledged that it was lost during 'their" watch and someone is responsibile
