I think my friends biked. There's a decent network of bike lanes in the neighborhood. And it connects to the Williamsburg Bridge.

Bed Stuy is not a nice area. period. Move there at your own risk. I don't think asking several times on the boards is going to get you a different opinion. Aren't there any other neighborhoods in Brooklyn that might be affordable, that aren't as bad?

There are a lot of neighborhoods (especially in parts of The Bronx) that are only a little more expensive but much, much nicer and safer than Bed Stuy but the Op seems obsessed with 700/mo rent for an apartment and with Bed Stuy in particular.
Not sure the OP has ever spent any time in Bed Stuy, which makes it all a little weird.

bed stuy isnt nice, cause as soon as part of Bed stuy gets fixed up, its no longer Bed stuy right?
Didn't Clinton Hill used to be Bed stuy?
The area north of Dekalb within a block or two of Bedford either way, used to be Bed Stuy - the northern boundary of which was Flushing ave. I have seen that area referred to as "Williamsburg" presumably because of its population of Hasidic Jews.

Okay take it from a guy who lived on Madison between Ralph and Patchen - That area of Bed-Stuy is NOT safe, Before actually it was pretty cool in the 90's (not really).
We had fun in the summer, and I attended PS. 309 RIGHT across from my apt Lol. Sure it's cheap, if that's your main concern but it's not worth it.
The 81st Precinct is for that area so look at stats if you want.
Here you go. 81st Precinct Stats
Edit - Wait, that's in the 79th Precinct Area Sorry Stats are here ----> 79th Precinct
