I liked it, but i'm from Boston with a bias (and overall) attitude, however, you can't deny how much worse NY drivers are compared to anyone.

I went to Times Square for a whole day / night then spent the whole next day and night in Soho to check out the music scene. Everyone is nice but I think i'd prefer to live in a difference city anyway.

I've NEVER gotten pick pocketed in times square and i have been there at all hours of the night/morning. those who get pick pocketed are probably the idiots who are being all flashy with their things, and not even because i was walking in times square the other night/morning at 3 am with my iPod out scrolling to change the song and nothing happened to me. certain people are just stupid. times square is not that dangerous. so please.

It wasn't too long ago that Times Square wasn't safe. The OP was just sharing her experience to calm the fears that some people still have about Times Square/NYC.

It's obvious that NYC still has some areas that are dangerous but they are rarely frequented by tourists.

To the OP, what differences do you find between California and NY (east coast, west coast)?

I ask because I'm from NYC (and hate it) and am ready to move to California, just curious to see what the differences are.

I go to Times Square all the time, well 42nd Street at least. I find it's mostly transplants that say they don't go to Times Square to try to fit in, lol. Native New Yorkers are indifferent about it.

Why would you encourage a tourist to visit the South Bronx? Just so she can post on the board "ooh New York is so scary!" The tourist parts of Manhattan are safe, we should be proud of that, not encouraging tourists to go to the hood to get a taste of the street life, lol. Why the hell would you go on vacation to do that?
