I have a a few thousand Delta SkyMiles to use so the wife and I are planning a 6 day trip to NYC and Niagra (both US and Canada). The tentative plan is to arrive at JFK on day 1, take the Penn Station train to Niagra on Day 4, do Niagra on day 5 and drive back to Buffalo at the end of day 5, flying out on day 6.
I welcome criticisms/suggestions to make the most of this trip while remaining somewhat frugal - my wife is cheap.

Good choice - that is ground zero for free! Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art are both 'suggested admission' and are at opposite sides of the park. The playground at MMA is one of our favorites. Get hot dogs and knishes for lunch from the carts in front of the museum, walk through the park and climb on the Alice in Wonderland statue and watch the electric boats. Cheap wives are the best!

I believe the Metropolitan Museum of Art now only offers "suggested contribution/admission" for NYC residents and all others have to pay the full admission price.
I always recommend starting by buying a couple of guidebooks.
