Also supermario if you want to see real diversity in a culture maybe you should visit little Guyana in queens and then visit the Guyanese in brooklyn and then notice how different these people are even though they come from the same country.

Now that's the meaning of diversity for a group of people coming from one country.(all though Guyana is a poor example because of segregation but you should get my drift.)

I seen a video where people came all the way from the UK to attend the labor day parade. The dominican parade is not popping off like that. People look forward to the west indian parade and the PR parade. Nobody talks about the DR parade

Reggae music is worldwide and nationwide. Comparing dominican music to reggae, dancehall etc you gotta be kidding me?

Dont dominicans and hispanics in general listen to reggaeton heavy? lmao

A whole section of queens named....Jamaica lol

Dominicans ride off the puerto rican wave when it comes to culture and recognition in this city
pretty much i dont think supermario ever knows what hes talking about when speaking about black folks.

reggae is one of the most influential genre in the world(Way more then the dominican styles of music).

And another huge point you make which i told supermario is that people come from all over to the west indian day parade.

As for the dominican parade? majority of the people who attend are Dominicans who live in the ny metro area for the most part(vast majority actually).

With almost 610,000+ Dominicans in the city of NYC, I can assure you, my dear friend, that the DR parade is talked about. That's not even mentioning the number of half Dominicans who attend. Let's not even get to the other Latinos who attend, especially Puerto Ricans. Again, the West Indian parade is not talked about outside of Brooklyn, and West Indians. Stop trying to gas it up, it's not that serious lol

Up here absolutely no one, ,the PR's, AA, Dominicans, etc give two craps about the W.I parade. Up here it's all about the DR and PR parades. You must be a comedian lol The DR parade is not popping? I suggest you go and then come back to me.

Reggae music is not worldwide. It is only heard in the West Indies. Dominican Music is heard throughout the east coast, we have various radio stations playing our music, and all of Latin America and Spain listens to DR music. Ask any latin America about what their favorite genre of music is, and I guarantee you bachata and merengue will come out their mouths. You can't tell me otherwise, I know this for a fact.

OK, you named one neighborhood, which I dont even believe is named after Jamaica (which btw has nothing to do with culture) and that is suppose to be more culture than the various DR stuff I mentioned? Dominicans have left their mark on this city, Jamaicans are not even a spec.

And BTW, every Latino wants the Dominican swagger. Which is why they all try to talk like us, dress like us, and hear our music. Shows you know nothing. Tell me why PR girls dont date PR guys, but rather Dominicans? lol

The thing with trinis, jamaicans, haitians , and bajans etc is that we done see each other as different by going of the shade of our skin. . A the end of the day the culture is all the same. Now if dominican people had different culture per different shade of skin then maybe you might call it diversity.

But a few shades of skin with all participating in the exact same culture is no where near diversity. You think a white person would feel diversity if they moved to WASHINGTON HEIGHTS?

OK and i can tell you never been to any west indian event. You think reggae is the only music the west indies has?

in the west indies you have reggae , dancehall , soca , calypso , zouk , konpa etc and Caribbean gospel music is very strong in the islands.

im sorry but the way your describing your dr culture is pretty much the same way west indian culture does.

Dominicans are among the most diverse people in the world. West Indians don't have the vast arrays of phenotype that you see in the videos. In that videos you see straight Nordic looking people, to people who look like they are from Sub saharan Africa, to everything in between, Mulattos, Castizos, Mestizos, Quadroons etc It's not even close.

It is not only skin shades, it's phenotype. Some light Dominicans have afro features and vice versa.

You think a White person in the west Indian parade would see diversity? He's probably gonna see a bunch of black people listening to jungle music. The white man would see Dominicans of all shades and automatically see diversity. Sad reality, but West Indians are homegenous, especially in the eyes of the white man.

You mention all those different types of music and I mentioned Dominicans different types of music. What you fail to understand is I was able to do so by using only one country, while you had to use various. It's sad that you have to use a whole region to justify saying it's more diverse than one country.

no like i said above Trinidad and Suriname are one of the most diverse nations in the world...your talking about mixes now? That again is not diversity nor is mixed race smh. No matter the skin tone they are all the same culture and people. You people only see yourselves as diverse in latin america but in america that is not what we call diversity.

wow you seem to make no sense. Why would you ask me if a white person would feel diversity in a west indian area is i just clearly said more then 500 times that's us west indies all know we are the same no matter the skin tone? so obviously duhhhhhhh off coarse not would a white person feel diversity in our areas.

supermario please stop making yourself look dumb i have heard white people even on city data using racial demographics against Dominicans and labeling you all in one category so no sorry homie but the white man would not see diversity while living in a dominican neighborhood. All he would see is a bunch of people blasting bachata, eating plantains chicken, and rice and speaking Spanish.

in fact theirs a thread on the nyc forum made a while ago where a irish girl wrote "dominicans ruined Inwood" so no your off.

SHow me outsiders attending the W.I parade.

Puerto Ricans and other hispanics attend the DR parade. You keep missing the point. Even AA attend, especially the ones who gre up with Dominicans.

Reggae does not compare to Merengue and Bachata. You do not understand that Dominican music is the # 1 music in all of Latin America (maybe except for Mexico).

What are you talking about? Mixes are diversity! Show me a white, black, mulatto, mestizo, castizo, octoroon, quadroon person from Trinidad. Show me this so called West Indian diversity. Please. If you have a person looking like they came from Spain, another one looking like he came from Kenya, another looking like he came from Venezuela, another looking like a North African , all in one room, that is diversity. Dominicans showcase all the phenotypes above. We are more diverse.

Stereotypes are just that. They hold no truth most of the time. So stop sterotyping. Stop talking the cultural stuff. I already told you within our culture, there are different elements. Stop acting dumb. Dominican culture is European (Spanish, Basque, French), African (West African, North African), Middle Eastern (Lebanese, Syria), Asian (Chinese), and Native (Arawak, Taino) all mixed into one. We had all these different migrations. The main ones being European, African, and Native. Stop speaking on Dominican culture when you know nothing about it. We are talking about racial diversity. Dominican people are more diverse than West Indians. You are using different countries!

You wanna play your game, so compare the Latin Carribean with the West Indies? Is that what you want.

Bro, I'll BRB, gotta go to Washington Heights. See some real diversity.

show you the mixes in trinidad? wow well here we go.

the ethnic groups and races that make up trinidad

Ethnic groups

East Indian/Indo-Trinidadian (a local term - primarily immigrants from Bhojpuri-speaking regions) 40%, Blacks/African/Afro-Trinidadian 37.5%, mixed 20.5%, white 0.6%, Chinese and other 1.2% (including descendants of the indigenous Caribs).

ethnic groups and races that make up suriname.

Ethnic groups

Demographics of Suriname - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Demographics of Trinidad and Tobago - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CLEARLY THOSE 2 COUNTRIES ARE PAST DIVERSE THEN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.

Also mixed race does not show any diversity at all if every single one of you share the same immigrant culture. Whats so hard to understand? Washington heights is not a diverse neighborhood and its not even diverse ethnically....its over 70 percent dominican alone. Just because Dominicans come in all shades doesn't make their community diverse it makes their community dominican which is not diverse at all.

off coarse stereotypes hold no truth which is why you need to stop doing it yourself.
