regarding the Pelham gardens area east of Eastchester Rd, south of Allerton/Gun Hill, north of Pelham Pkwy and west of I 95, and especially in the section where the houses are big and well kept (like say Westervelt/ Kingsland Woodhull Avenues etc) is that section predominantly Italian? Are there any Jewish/Russians/Irish in the houses? Is it white collar or long time blue collar people who own the homes?

It's a mix of Italians,Irish,Jews and a few others but definitely predominantly Italian.
It is mostly professional and white collar types with a few long time blue collar types.. but blue collar owners.Like if it's a plumber it's someone who owns a largish plumbing company, not a plumber who works for someone else.Or someone who is a big electrical contractor, not just a solo electrician.
Lots of doctors, lawyers, dentists,a few teachers, professors, wall streeters, etc,. It's similar in income and demographics to another Pelham Parkway sub neighborhood called Indian Village which is just South of Pelham Parkway and just to the East of Williamsbridge Rd.
Houses in both these neighborhoods sell for around 700,000 or 800,000 and sometimes a million or more, which is a lot in The Bronx.I think only Riverdale has higher priced single family houses ,except for waterfront houses on City Island.

yes 17 years ago
I was at a house party on Yates Avenue and Pierce Avenue. Right off Williamsbridge Rd. People who live in this area who have their mortgages free and clear are lucky

well
just that its a semi suburban area with decent transit, not everything in NYC is like that
I remember feeling strange getting back to Riverdale after that party, it's like, both Yates/Pierce and my area are white areas, yet despite that they still have a very different feel to them

Pelham Gardens,Morris Park and most of Pelham Parkway is in kind of a time warp, but it's kind of nice....like nothing much has changed in 30 years. It has maintained it's identity .There is something I like about it because it's like a big chunk of lost NY.Outsiders don't realize how nice it is and most people are afraid of The Bronx(except for Riverdale). That's why Riverdale feels different....it's had more intrusion from the outside world.
You are right. Most of the other neighborhoods like these are not so close at all to subways, etc. They are in outer Queens and places like the less accessible parts of Riverdale.

I agree the area reminds me of NE Queens w/ better subway access. Those places also have a somewhat Bay Ridge feel.
Bluedog is there any area where Booklyn and Manhattan like Brownstones dominate in the Bronx? With the exception of a few rundow ones in the South Bronx it doesn't seem to be many in the Bronx's inventory.
